Pupil Premium
Pupil Premium is a government grant which aims to narrow the gap in attainment between particular groups of children and their peers. This grant can be awarded for children who are in receipt of Free School Meals (either currently or at some point in the last six years - Ever 6 children), as a result of parents being on a low income. In addition to this, children who are considered looked after (Looked After Child - LAC) or who have been adopted are allocated a grant. There is also funding allocated to children who have parents in the armed forces. All children from these groups are eligible for Pupil Premium funding.
At St. Bartholomew’s Pupil Premium money is used carefully to target this group of children and the children are tracked to ensure that their progress is rapid and sustained in the core skills of reading, writing and maths. We also help to support children with curriculum enrichment, clubs, trips and residential activities. Through regular progress meetings, the impact of the premium money is assessed and adjustments made. We work with outside agencies in many cases to help support these children.
The gap in attainment between disadvantaged children and the other children has been closing over the past 3 years in reading, writing and maths.
In addition to academic support, nurture groups have been established to help with emotional support for these children. They include story times, craft groups and a lego club.
Children have also been able to go on day and residential trips, due to financial support through Pupil Premium Money.
